“Set!” The announcer said, and before we knew what was happening, the gun had gone off. Initially, things were too fast for me, but upon refocusing my eyes, I saw my son powerfully swimming past the third swimmer. NY was in third position, and we screamed our heads off! Even bronze would have been an achievement, but then something incredible started to happen. Was it in my imagination, or was my son swimming past the swimmer in second position? The announcer’s excited voice confirmed what we were witnessing: “It is Ghana! It is Ghana heading for the first position!” “Yes! N.Y., one of the discoveries of this year, and yes! Yes! YES! It is Ghana in the lead. Ghana has just, by a small margin, gone past the United States!” It was unimaginable! The way we screamed - his dad, myself, and his siblings. I had never rejoiced so much in my life. My son was reaching out for the Ghana flag, wrapping it around his body, while his manager, Adoma, hugged him tightly. I wished I could run to him. The Ghanaian crowd erupted in celebration, but the excitement didn’t end there. Jojo took the stage for the 50M Butterfly, and the crowd’s chants for another gold medal were deafening. As Jojo was introduced, our hearts pounded with anticipation. “Set! Blast!” The starting gun sounded, and Jojo’s performance was nothing short of sensational. The stadium erupted in cheers as Jojo crossed the finish line. Watching the medal ceremony later, tears welled up in our eyes as the Ghanaian National Anthem played twice. It was a moment of immense pride and joy for our family, witnessing our sons make history on the Olympic stage.
