Brigitte Kragbe ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Brigitte, I am extremely grateful for your hands-on involvement in bringing the vision to life. “Thank you!” for letting me use your lovely studio, designing our set, and creating the most elegant outfits for the telesummit videos and photoshoot. Love, Sika What started as a scholarship awarded to Juliana Kweifio-Okai by the Kwame Nkrumah Cocoa Marketing Board Initiative to study at the reputable Ecole Guerre-Lavigne (ESMOD), Paris, paved the way to Ghana’s first fashion house, known as Chez Julie since 1960. In fact, JulianaKweifio-Okai is recognisedasAccra’s first Parisian-trained fashion designer to emerge in Ghana during the post-colonial era. Handed down frommother to daughter, the Chez Julie brand lives on today through the production of premium African print garments with flawless finishing and European cuts, under the stewardship of fashion designer Brigitte Kragbe, the successor and first daughter of Juliana Kweifio-Okai. Upholding quality and trust, Chez Julie remains an iconic fashion brand with historical value that stands for timelessness. As the brand that pioneered fashion inGhana, Chez Julie upholds heritage in various aspects by appealing not only to the primary target audience of the late Juliana Kweifio-Okai (old-timers age 50–70) but also to a younger flagship demographic that identifies with its African appeal, comprised of bold prints and classy cuts (age 30– 50). 55
