“Aww,” Adoley says, when I mention Ama Duncan’s name. She still hasn’t gotten over her neice’s future destiny, I think. She looks all so revived since hearing that Ivy is a banker. I am expecting her to come up with another relative called Ama but she smiles and asks, “Who is Ama Duncan?” So I reply, “AMA DUNCAN is a strong woman who is a coach and the founder of The Fabulous Woman Network, an organisation that conducts activities to bring women together to share experiences, learn, network, and collaborate. She is also a corporate trainer with over 15 years of experience in employee learning and development. She facilitated the Women Leadership Development Program organised by the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Center, the EU-Ghana Circular Economy Conference, and GIZ/British Council jobs for youth projects. She has a master’s degree in business administration in human resources management from the Paris Graduate School of Management and a bachelor’s degree in arts from the University of Ghana. Ama is married and blessed with two lovely children” “And how did you meet her?” Three years ago, Yawa Hansen-Quao organised a women’s retreat for a core group of friends as a birthday gift to me. Ama arrived at the venue in style. In fact, her entrance got the cheers of the “triumphant entry of Jesus to Jerusalem”—she looked fabulous! I noticed her for two major reasons: her non-conformist nature, whichwas evident in her dressing, and the passionwithwhich she communicated her career. Clearly, she was an entrepreneur whowould go against the odds to fulfil her purpose. When we engaged, I knew that she was in her zone of purpose. Ama, like most selfactualizing women, knew that coaching is for those who seek to flow and step into their next level of greatness. By the third day, she had requested that I become her coach and support her in reaching her next level. In our first three sessions, we activated her feminine power, after which we reflected and amplified her potential. After these initial three sessions, she stepped into creation and came up with action plans to reach her next level of greatness. In fact, she did not even need to do the entire six paid sessions. Her Fabulous Women Network and other projects were seeing drastic shifts for greater impact. Ama Duncan has become a friend and mentor in many ways. I tap into her persistence, consistency of delivery, and zeal to serve. As I add these tomy toolkit, I journey steadily toward becoming my best self. We support each other in training workshops and conference presentations. 49
