God… and God Alone My faith has kept me going. I first learned about God in Sunday School. In our home, going to church wasn’t a choice—it was a requirement. If you didn’t go, you wouldn’t be fed. I became a chorister even while still in school, singing my heart out in praise. From a young age, I began reading my Bible and praying—not to pass exams, but to truly understand God’s word. When I left home for the first time to attend boarding school at Ghana National College, my mother gave me her old, torn Bible. She told me, “This is all I have for you. Read this book and understand it. Let it be your guide.” That torn Bible became my greatest treasure. I kept it until I finished school, and only then was I able to buy my own. Since then, I’ve bought a few English ones, but my heart always returns to the Fante Bible. I connect to it more deeply—it speaks to me in the language of my soul, in the rhythm of my people. When I read it, the words do not feel distant or foreign; they feel like home. Every verse carries the voices of my grandmother and mother—praying, teaching, and reminding us of God’s faithfulness. I love to see my children serving in the church in any way they can. It fills me with pride and fulfillment. All my life, I have trusted God, kept my faith strong, and lived a prayerful life. And through it all, the Fante Bible has been the anchor that steadies my heart. My first family 42 The Birthday Journal
