Sweet AuntieMonica, as I call her, has been a great influence on my life. When I got married, she traditionally supported our cake cutting. For this symbolic act, you choose someone you love, trust, and want to emulate — and that perfectly summarises my thoughts and feelings towards her. My favourite memory has to be my wedding day, with her helping us to cut our cake. Whenever I meet Auntie, either in London or Ghana, we have such heartfelt conversations, and I leave inspired and encouraged each time. The last time was in June of this year. I still smile remembering her turning down a gift I brought her fromLondon, only for me to end up with so many gifts to take away that same day! That is my Auntie to a T. There has never been a moment of misunderstanding between us. I would love to describe her in three words — or rather four: beautiful inside and out. Thank you, Sweet AuntieMonica, for allowing us to have this beautiful relationship, which has impacted my life and made me think about how to impact others by simply being a lovely person. Sweet AuntieMonica, may this time of celebration remind you not just of the blessings you have received but also the blessings you have been to so many. You exemplify God’s love in so many ways. I pray for good health andHis continued blessings on you in the days, months, and years ahead. Have a lovely, long fewmonths of celebrating your 80th birthday. Lots of love, Barbara and all the Ahafia Sisters Maa, I first met you throughNana Poku and Sister. You have always been a very friendly and caring mumwho takes time to know her children’s friends. You are caring, thoughtful, and loving, and I am grateful for your good advice. I remember howwarm your smile was, making you forget about one’s worries. Your sense of humour, your willingness to make time for everyone, and your readiness to assist are things I have always admired. I also remember the excitement on your face at the surprise birthday party organised for you 30 years ago, especially when Chief showed up unexpectedly from the US. As you turn 80, I pray that you continue to be the caring and thoughtful woman you have always been. Lucy Ewuresi Brobby The Birthday Journal 89
