Monica 80 Magazine

AuntieMonica, I first met you through your daughter Akua, my treasured friend, and was immediately inspired by your style, strength of character, and kindness. All who know you can attest to the fact that you are an exceedingly generous person and bond with Akua’s friends like your own children; even our first meeting felt like we had known each other forever. You are always showering me with gifts on visits and special occasions — it’s heartwarming and humbling all at once. I was especially moved when you sent me a beautiful kente cloth for a milestone birthday, even when you weren’t here. You inspire me to do the same for my children’s friends — to love them like your own. One of my favourite memories with you is the quality time we spent on one of your visits with the three generations of women in your family — you, Akua, and Abi. I can see how your life has inspired each of them. A funny moment I will never forget is when we called you on WhatsApp Video during a surprise visit to Akua for her 50th birthday. As we sang along to CeCeWinans’ “Goodness of God”, we all began to bawl uncontrollably and I had to terminate the call. You dialled back immediately, saying in Twi, “the line cut!” — it was heartwarming and funny at the same time! You are strong, generous, and stylish. I thank you for treating me like your daughter. AuntieMonica, we thank God for your life! You don’t look 80 at all! I pray that God’s blessings continue to abound with excellent health, peace of mind, and the constant love of family and friends. Keep enjoying every moment in life! Pia Dogbey I first met you in Kumasi through my parents, but I really got to know you better through your daughter, Akua, during our days at Holy Child School. You’ve always been someone who genuinely checks on me and my family, showing what true care looks like. That consistency reminds me to also show love and support to others, no matter how busy life gets. One moment that always makes me smile is how you distinguish between all the “Anitas” you know by calling me “Ani Dubai.” I love that special touch! And I’ll never forget your story about your Capri shorts during your first visit to Dubai — how you lamented missing out on wearing them after Akua told you to dress modestly. Even now, when we talk, you tell me about which colour of shorts you’re wearing. You once shared your thoughts on the importance of living together as a couple, and that conversation encouraged me to spend more time with my family whenever possible. I truly appreciate that wisdom. You are God-fearing, inspiring, and warm-hearted. Thank you, MamaMonica, for your indiscriminate love. You have lived eight decades with such grace and style. Wishing you a joyful 80th birthday and many more beautiful years ahead! Anita Ezan 78 The Birthday Journal
