You’ve been more than just a neighbour — you’ve become my walking partner and a true mother figure to me. Our daily walks, whenever the weather allows, are moments I truly treasure. During those times, we share genuine conversations, exchange advice, and encourage each other. I’ve learned so much from your honesty, wisdom, and the way you always insist on doing things the right way. You have such a good heart and a natural way of guiding those around you, especially the young people in our neighbourhood. Everyone respects and loves you because of your kindness and the care you show. As you celebrate your 80th birthday, I wish you God’s peace, strength, and continued good health. May we share many more walks, laughter, and heartfelt talks together. Mrs. Mercy Asante-Mensah “Yaa,” I would call, and she’d always respond, “Ern Aga!” Yaa has been my dear friend and sister from the very first day we met — over forty years ago, though I can hardly remember exactly when. We’ve shared so many wonderful memories together, long chats, and joyful moments, especially on our food shopping trips. She made me feel like a part of your family, inviting me to every event of hers and allowing me to help with the planning and cooking of the food. Yaa is such a welcoming soul — always full of life, laughter, and genuine happiness. Being around her simply brightens my day. As you celebrate your 80th birthday, Yaa, I thank God for your beautiful life and for bringing you this far. I pray that His grace, joy, peace, and good health continue to surround you in the years ahead. With love always, Aunty Agatha First and foremost, many happy returns,Monica! I still remember meeting you for the first time in the year 2000, when I rented your house. From that moment, my family and I built beautiful memories with you that we continue to cherish. I’ve always called youMadame, and what has always stood out to me is your simplicity, warmth, and kindness. You welcomed my family and me with open arms, treating us not just as tenants but as friends. You joined us in celebrating our Indian cultural events, especially Diwali, with so much enthusiasm—moments that made us feel truly at home. I still have pictures from those days that bring back such fond memories. I’ll never forget the time my dog bit you— yet you stayed calm and never got angry. Till date, I feel sorry. That moment reflected your gracious and forgiving nature. When I think of you, three words come to mind: warm, affectionate, and beautiful — inside and out. Thank you, Madame, for your kindness, cooperation, and friendship during our stay. We pray that God continues to bless you with long life, good health, and endless happiness. May all your wishes come true. Cheers to 80! Harinderjit Singh Dhillon (Harry) and Family, Moti Mahal Restaurant, Kumasi The Birthday Journal 51
