Monica 80 Magazine

We met AuntieMonica on KNUST campus 50 years ago in one of the lecturers’ homes. AuntieMonica is very caring. Anytime our paths crossed, she would always ask how I was, and she genuinely meant it. She would go on to ask about our daughter, Nana Gyamfua. She is also a very good conversationalist—never a dull moment, always with a smile. Nana Gyamfua remembers her smile and how she always had her interest at heart. She also shared stories with her. One of our favourite memories is how caring she was while we lived on KNUST campus. She would direct people to our home when they mistakenly ended up at her door because of our common surname, “Asante.” WhenNana Gyamfua was ill and I was away, she cared about her recovery and immediately informedme upon my return. The lesson I took away was that “it takes a village…” A funny moment that still makes us smile was when we met at a wedding, and she was describing her attire for her daughter’s wedding when the time came. AuntieMonica is caring, loving, and understanding. Thank you for being a mother to somany. AuntieMonica, on your 80th birthday, our prayer is that the Lord will bless you with long life and great health. May your laughter increase, your joy multiply, and your peace be unshakable. The glory of this latter year shall be greater than the former. Mrs. Frempong-Asante and Nana Gyamfua Happy 80th birthday, AuntieMonica! Sending love and blessings your way as we celebrate this special day with you. Thank you for the many years of friendship you shared with our beloved Dad andMom! From the stories our mom shared of pushing baby strollers fromAsojah to Ridge Road (which we don’t remember) and family visits, you were definitely part of our youth. Thank you somuch for the many memories and love poured into the Kessey children. Your smile was so contagious, and your “coolness” in relating to young adults always stood out. Uncle Yawwas taken too soon, but with God’s help, you did great! We are so proud of you for raising amazing Asantes! Behind fondly calling you AuntieMonica are years of good times andmemories. They don’t make such friendships anymore, so we cherish the love between the Asantes and Kesseys. We pray God continues to bless you with good health, happiness, and joy. Keep on being ageless and fabulous! Love from the Kesseys The Birthday Journal 41
