Monica 80 Magazine

I first met Granny in 2005. She has been a great inspiration to my family, especially for encouraging my mum to invest in our education. As a single mother of three, my mumwas able to help us complete our first degrees because of Auntie Monica’s wise counsel and support. I remember how she would always advise me to take my education seriously, and after completing my first degree, I realised everything she said was true. I still smile when I think of her playful words — “Kwaku taller, you won’t come and look for me.” Granny is loving, caring, and kind. I thank her deeply for always being there for us. May the good Lord continue to bless her. Kwaku I met you on August 7, 2019, during a visit with the Lectors Ministry to one of our senior members, Auntie Elaine. That day changed my life — you noticed me admiring everything around and warmly invited me to speak and sing. Since then, you have been a grandmother, a mother, and a friend. I believe you are an angel God sent to me. Your genuine concern for my well-being — always asking, “Me Nana, na ɛte sɛn?” — still warms my heart. Grandma literally held my hand and sent me to the home of a civil engineer to consider me for employment, which eventually became my first permanent railway construction job. At a point when I faced accommodation challenges, she not only found me a place but also paid in advance. I owe her the career I am building now, and this has encouraged me to also support people facing challenges within my circle. NanaHemaa will not even let me help with washing her plates. She will tell me not to bother, and though it’s not a misunderstanding, it’s something we always laugh over. I still smile remembering the hug you gave me after I sang that day — the peace I felt remains unforgettable. Even in the simplest moments, your kindness shines through. You are angelic, God-fearing, and empathetic. Thank you for never giving up on me, even when I coiled up in my shell. Grandma, I can never express in words the impact you have made on me since we met. God bless you abundantly. The love and support you have shown me are forever etched in my heart. Happy birthday, NanaHemaa, at 80! I know the Lord has blessed you, and may He continue to bless you and your beautiful family. My family and I say we love you dearly, and may you continue to live in the infinite love, favour, and mercy of God. Nana Kyere Duah 160 The Birthday Journal
