What I love most about GrandmaMonica is her honesty and her willingness to sacrifice for those she loves. Her tough love has always been rooted in pure care — she tells it how it is, never sugarcoats, but always acts with my best interest at heart. Her strong-willed nature and determination have guided me through many hardships, showing me what true love and discipline look like. One of my most cherished memories with her was when she stayed at our house for about a month a few years back. Each morning, I looked forward to seeing her and sharing laughs. I’ll never forget the day we started comparing arms and she couldn’t stop laughing at how “chubby” mine were — her laughter filled the room and, in her classic way, she turned it into a lesson, convincing me to start working out. Another unforgettable memory was the first time I drove her on a golf cart — I nearly gave her a heart attack because I drove like it was the Grand Prix! The way she screamed and held onto the seat for dear life still cracks me up to this day. Grandma always reminds me to praise God in all circumstances, teaching me that without Him, there is nothing — a lesson I carry with me daily. What makes Grandma happiest are those little moments of joy, like watching her beloved Ghanaian TV shows. I can still hear her voice calling, “Sean, come in here and put onMY show before you go to school!” Her laughter and excitement made the whole house feel alive. One of the most unforgettable experiences with her was our trip to Punta Cana. Grandma, ever the social butterfly, made friends with two women fromBrazil within days, so much so that they invited her to come home with them— and she almost did! That moment perfectly captures her warmth, openness, and ability to connect deeply with anyone she meets. Grandma, thank you for loving me and helping take care of me since the very first day I was born— your care and guidance have shaped who I am today, and I’m forever grateful. Happy birthday, Grandma! I love you endlessly. Nowmake sure you live long enough to enjoy that car I promised you years back — I’m holding you to it, so don’t go anywhere anytime soon! Love, Sean Benneh 152 The Birthday Journal
