Our relationship with you goes way back to our childhood in the early 1980s. You were such a close friend to our mother, and over time, you became like family —not just to her, but to all of us. Living as neighbors on the KNUST campus only deepened that bond, and we’ll always cherish those memories. You know, thinking back, you were just incredible during our childhood. You really took us under your wing, and you were like a second mother to us —warm, caring, and always looking out for everyone. We’ll never forget the amazing and beautiful friendship between you and our late mom, Akosua. You were not just a friend, but a truly cherished sister. The two of you shared something truly special — a sisterhood full of laughter, strength, and deep affection. One moment we’ll never forget was when we visited you afterMr. Asante’s passing. His close friend, Professor Acquaye, had also passed away just days after him! The atmosphere, as you can imagine, was heavy with sadness. As we entered the house, you were distraught, your eyes filled with tears. But then, through your tears and a mix of profound sorrow, you turned to our mom and said in Twi, “Akosua, my dear! Tell me, which death am I supposed to be crying about right now—my husband’s or his friend’s?” The way you said it — heartfelt, raw, and funny —made everyone burst into laughter. It was an unexpected and such a pure moment of human emotion that, for a fleeting second, it completely cut through the sadness. In your own inimitable way, you brought light into the room, which lifted all the heaviness. It was such a powerful reminder of your ability to find light even in the darkest moments. If we could thank you for one thing, it would be for the unwavering support and love you showed our mom, especially during our father’s passing and when we couldn’t be near. Your presence brought immense comfort and much-needed smiles to our family. Sis Dora, Sis Afua, Isaac, Angie, Kwame, and Ben say, “Nyame nyira wu AuntieMonica!!” You are friendly, funny, and fashionable, and we love you deeply for it. Happy 80th Birthday, Auntie Yaa Yaa!!
