Since my childhood, AuntieMons has been a special presence in my life. She was especially there for my mother, my brothers, and me when my father died. I fondly call her AuntieMons. AuntieMons is a very calming influence in my life. She has a way of getting me to do things my stubborn “Asantewaa” self doesn’t want to do. One of my favourite memories is during my engagement, when she came to stay with my mother and me. She helped me navigate all the traditional arrangements I had no idea how to handle. She basically organised my whole engagement with my mother, and it was fantabulous! When my father died, it was a very daunting time. She used to come and visit me in the hospital and was always there for my mother, even though it didn’t make her popular with their mutual in-laws. There are so many funny moments to remember, most of them centring around her listening to my stories of my nights out in Accra. There has never been a moment of real misunderstanding with her. She is my mother, so there were times when she’d have to correct me, but I don’t remember her ever shouting — she always got her point across in her strong, gentle, calmway. I thank her for being there for my mother when my father died, even though her own husband had also passed. AuntieMons, we thank God for your life and all that He has used you to do. You are a mother to many, and I can boastfully say I am one of your real children— something I am very proud of. May the Lord continue to keep you in good health, keep a smile on your face, and joy in your heart. Love youmuch, AuntieMons. xxx Madalaine Asante Happy birthdayMrs.MonicaAsante!!
