Monica 80 Magazine

Maa Yaa, my sweet Aunt, whom I am so proud to call Mom— today we celebrate the amazing woman you are. On your 80th birthday, I just want to remind you how truly wonderful and important you are to us. I want to thank you for your endless love, wise counsel, and constant support. You have been the heartbeat of our family — our pillar, our comfort, and our guide. We are so grateful for the sacrifices you’ve made. We are beyond blessed to have you as our mother and role model. Your sacrifices, strength, and unconditional love continue to shape our lives in beautiful ways. As youmark this incredible milestone, I pray that God blesses you with long life, good health, prosperity, and abundant joy. You shall live long to enjoy the fruits of your labour. God’s grace will always be sufficient for you. I love you deeply, Mom. Your daughter, Adwoa Pokuaa (Baby) I first met Auntie Yaa Yaa — our dear Grandmaa — at Tech in 1991 when my father, Samuel Boamah Atiemo (whom she fondly callsWofa), took me along to visit her. That was the day he told me, “This is your grandma.” She became Grandmaa Tech, as I fondly call her. Auntie Yaa Yaa is a true unifier and provider, always showing deep concern for our well-being. She constantly checks in to ask how our education and careers are going, emphasising the importance of building a solid future. Her words still ring in my ears: “Develop your career; we don’t have gold or cocoa to leave you.” Education is very important to her. One funny moment I’ll never forget was when she asked how I met Chief. I said, “On LinkedIn,” and she replied, “I pray one day none of you will go and bring your sister home for marriage with this your Internet Internet thing!”We laughed so hard. That’s Auntie Yaa Yaa —wise, humorous, and full of life. Other times she would say, “So, Kwabena, you won’t bring your wife to come and see me?Wo deɛ, yoo.” Classic Grandmaa Tech. She also embodies fairness and cultural pride, often presiding over family meetings with my dad without bias. Her sense of unity, solidarity, and kindness holds our family together. Thank you for your kindness and your unending support for family. At 80, you continue to be a shining source of inspiration and wisdom, Auntie Yaa Yaa. May your light guide us for many more years to come. Wishing you a blessed and joyful birthday! Christian Boamah Atiemo The Birthday Journal 125
