I first met Ellis at a fertility centre. My initial impression? His appearance and composure — always neat, always gentle. One of the most memorable experiences I’ve had with him was in 2008. There was an opportunity to recruit an embryologist — a field I had never considered. Ellis, with his usual calm conviction, talked me into it. He encouraged me to pursue it, and that one decision has shaped my entire career. Today, I’m a clinical embryologist because of him. He didn’t just point the way — he mentored, coached, and trained me. That experience will forever be part of my journey. Ellis has this way of making complex issues look simple — and he does it all with a great sense of humour. That’s one of the things I’ve always admired about him. If I could sum up our bond in one phrase: a true friend. “There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” That’s who Ellis is. Happy 60th Birthday! Wishing you good health, long life, and prosperity. And please — keep looking young! Eugene Baah We met 12 years ago. My initial impression of Ellis was calm, cool, and collected. Significantly few men have impacted my life the way you, Dr. Ellis Fleischer Djoleto, have. We were briefly introduced about twelve years ago, but that was enough time to establish strong bonds that became clear five years ago when I was at my lowest ebb and you came to my rescue, literally as my destiny helper. You have since become my mentor, teacher, and friend. You earned my reverence not only because of our personal relationship but also for your many years as a trailblazer in embryology, teaching and mentoring as many embryologists as come to you. For this, it’s fitting to call you the oracle of embryology. Many lives have been created, and families kept together through your craftsmanship. Your influence grows with every new mentee and every life created, directly or indirectly, through your hands. At Hallmark Medicals (HM), we always look forward to your visits like the return of a big brother home. Your presence is a rallying force that motivates and inspires confidence. We cannot thank you enough for your exemplary leadership in resilience, integrity, and ethical practice, but above all, we thank you for believing in us. One funny trait that always brings a smile to my face is your deep sense of humour. You always manage to keep the atmosphere around you lovely and lively. If I had to sum up our bond in one word, it would be friendly, because you’ve had my back in difficult moments and celebrate with me in times of joy. You are a true friend in need. I am very happy to celebrate you on this 60th birthday milestone. On behalf of my wife and the entire HM family, I wish you good health, longevity, and joy in multiples of what you give. Togbi Ekpe Subo V (a.k.a. Dr. Francis Jojo Damalie) My first impression when I met Ellis some years back was that he was calm, meticulous, and intelligent. One moment that stands out was watching him handle a particularly challenging situation with remarkable poise and calmness — a true display of character. Happy Birthday, Ellis! Wishing you excellent health and much wealth in the years ahead. Michael McCarthy 48 The Birthday Journal C O U R AG E O U S
