Ellis Magazine

I first met Ellis in 1979 at St. Martins. From the beginning, he struck me as both smart and kind. One memory that has stayed with me is from 1983 — Ellis shared his little shito with me. That moment of selflessness sums up who he is. He’s always ready to share whatever he has. One thing that always made me smile was how, even as a small boy, Ellis would try to involve himself with the older boys. If I had to describe our bond in one word, it would be: generous. He never holds back when it comes to helping others. Happy Birthday, Ellis! May you have a long, healthy life. Keep flourishing and keep shining, Doc. Charles Adoo I first met Ellis about six years ago at work. He is strict, straightforward, and fair in his judgement. However, he is also very open and friendly. I can’t single out a particular day, but every HODs gathering is memorable whenever he is present. He always has something to say that cracks everyone up. A funny trait of Ellis is that he always shows appreciation for hard work and extra effort — but you must brace yourself if you don’t perform well! If I had to sum up my bond with Ellis, it would be that of a father, big brother, and friend. Happy BIG 60th to a great boss and wonderful person. Thank you for your motivation and genuine leadership. Wishing you good health, long life, and God’s favour. Bella I first met Ellis in October 2022. As I sat in front of him, I thought to myself, “Here comes another disciplinarian as my boss!” and I wondered why God always gave me such people to work with. Still, I hoped this new boss would be better than the previous ones I’d had. On the Friday of the week I joined the hospital, he proved he was a different kind of boss. It happened to be a sendoff for the former HR, and I saw something different. Whilst waiting, he realised that people were delaying, so he stood up and started serving us drinks himself at the restaurant. I was so surprised. Another memorable experience was at a colleague’s wedding when the weather turned and things were behind schedule. I saw my boss once again helping — this time trying to get shelter for staff to make sure everyone was comfortable. That left a deep impression on me. A funny trait of his that always brings a smile to my face is how, instead of calling me “HR,” he prefers to say “Hyrrr” — especially when he’s in a good mood. And of course, there’s his usual Ga proverb: “Kɛji gbonyo na terel)) no ni ekum)) emli.” (Get the meaning from him yourself !) If I had to use one word to describe our bond, I would say it’s deep — and at the same time, amiable. Happy birthday, Dr. Ellis! May your day be as amazing as you are. I also want to take this opportunity to thank you for always being a positive influence. I pray that the good Lord renews your strength like that of the eagle, and may His countenance shine on you always. Deborah Hoedzoadey I first met Uncle Ellis about eight years ago. He was very easy to speak with, and I found him to be authentic and direct. A memorable experience we shared was when I was in Ghana and we went out to a jazz club with his wife and sister. It was a fun-filled night with lots of witty remarks and laughter. What always brings a smile to my face is his authenticity and sense of humour. If I had to sum up our bond in one word, it would be sincere — he is genuine and honest. Best wishes on your 60th! Your wisdom and sense of humour are unmatched, and I have appreciated every moment shared in your presence. Happy birthday! James Osei-Bonsu 40 The Birthday Journal C O M PA S S I O N AT E
