Ellis Magazine

We first met Dr. Ellis around 2020. After engaging with him, we walked away with a deep sense of hope — we just knew, somehow, that we would also become parents one day. From the moment we set eyes on our baby, nothing else in this world mattered more. Dr. Ellis breathed fresh life into our home — a glow that still warms us every single morning. One phrase of his that always made us smile, even in the toughest times, was: “I owe you a baby.” That line alone took away so much of our stress. If we had to sum up our bond with Dr. Ellis in one word, it would be: Redeemer. Through his care and commitment, he gave us not just a child, but a new perspective on life. Every time our child smiles at us, it reminds us of the joy and purpose Dr. Ellis helped restore. Our birthday wish? A very long life filled with good health and energy — so he can keep bringing smiles and joy to the homes of couples who’ve almost given up. May God’s blessings over his life be unceasing — always. Humphrey & Thelma Commey quality time with him and the family — full of laughter and great memories. But one of the most unforgettable experiences was when I lived with him in Ghana for about six months. That season was filled with countless hilarious and eye-opening moments, but one in particular still cracks me up to this day. I had just been pickpocketed on a trotro on my way home from work — they took my wallet and passport. I called Uncle Ellis in a panic, expecting sympathy or maybe even a rescue plan. Instead, he calmly responded, “Welcome to Ghana.” That was it. No stress — just classic Uncle Ellis. His response perfectly captured his humour, his calmness, and the way he helps you take life in stride. Uncle Ellis has always had a unique and hilarious sense of humour. One thing that always makes me laugh is how he reacts whenever I talk to him about a girl I’m seeing or a relationship I’m in. Without fail, he somehow finds a way to roast the entire situation effortlessly and with perfect timing. It’s never mean-spirited, just classic Uncle Ellis: witty, sharp, and absolutely funny. He has a way of keeping things light, even when the topic is serious — that’s part of his charm. If I had to sum up our bond in one word, I’d say: guide. My bond with Uncle Ellis has always felt like that of a guide — a fatherly figure I could trust, look up to, and learn from. He’s been a consistent source of wisdom, someone I could turn to for advice and perspective. As I’ve grown into manhood, he’s been an example of what it means to lead with values, integrity, and strength. He’s not just a mentor — he’s family, and the kind of presence that gives you both direction and reassurance. Hitting 60 is such a remarkable milestone, and my wish for Uncle Ellis is nothing but the absolute best. I pray for continued success, joy, and fulfilment in every area of his life. I hope he grows older with even more grace, strength, and wisdom — continuing to embody the values that have made him such a powerful presence in our lives. May he live long, stay healthy, and keep inspiring all of us with his leadership, humour, and heart. Linford Boye Lamptey I’ve known Uncle Ellis my whole life, so I don’t have a specific memory of when we first met. But as I got older and spent more time with him, I began to understand and appreciate the man he is. My impression of Uncle Ellis has always been that he’s a strong and principled person. He has a disciplined, almost military approach to life, especially when it comes to training and structure — something you definitely feel when living with him. At the same time, he’s incredibly attentive, kind, and easygoing. He has a great sense of humour — sometimes sharp, sometimes a little cheeky — but always memorable. Over the years, he’s shown himself to be not only a great mentor and leader but also a true family man. I’ve always looked up to him and admired the way he carries himself with both strength and warmth. Over the years, I’ve shared quite a few memorable experiences with Uncle Ellis. One that stands out from my childhood was when he visited us in Belgium with the kids. We all went to an amusement park together, and it was such a fun and joyful time. It meant a lot to spend that kind of The Birthday Journal 39 E L L I S AT 6 0
