Uncle Ellis has been a good friend to both my parents for as long as I can remember. Fun fact — my mum says he made her the best okro stew when she was pregnant with me, and for the longest time, that was all she could eat. So, if we’re being honest, I’ve actually known Uncle Ellis since I was in my mum’s belly. I recently planned a surprise birthday party for my husband. Like all surprise parties, the most difficult part was getting all the guests to keep the secret. One fateful morning, here comes Uncle Ellis with a straight face and news that he had mistakenly asked my husband what attire the guests were supposed to wear for the surprise party. My heart dropped — until I realised he was pulling my leg and just wanted to scare me! He’s always trying to lighten the mood or brighten someone’s day with a joke. No matter how serious or stressed you are, he’ll always find a way to make you smile. If I had to use one word to sum up my bond with Ellis, it would be inspiring — because thanks to him, I’ve been successfully trained as an embryologist. The joy and fulfilment I have in what I do is all because I was inspired by him. I wish him even bigger blessings in addition to all that he has already achieved. May he live long to enjoy and reap the benefits of his hard work. Maame Bemmah I met Ellis through Asor, though it turned out my husband already knew him. My first impression? N’asua awu! The man made everyone laugh effortlessly. One unforgettable memory? Ellis made the meanest Greek salad I’ve ever tasted. The guy is not only hilarious but can seriously cook — and to top it all off, he’s a peacemaker. Is that even possible? What always brings a smile to my face is his unique ability to diffuse any heated situation with humour. And he reminds me of my uncle P. Yaw — looks and all! If I had to sum up my bond with Ellis in one word, it would be Clever! Because he’s witty, humorous, sharp, and intelligent all rolled into one. Happy 60th birthday, Ellis! You embracedMaria as a sisterin-law, Francis as a brother, and with that, you welcomed all of us. You are a kind-hearted man who loves Asor deeply, and we appreciate you all the more for it. May the many decades ahead be filled with pure joy, love unlimited, fantastic health, long life, prosperity, and peace of mind. Have a great day! Lisa Ode Quarshie Compassionate I met Bodey on Tech (KNUST) campus sometime in 1986 — Herrh, we grow ooo. He did Biological Science and I did Biochemistry, but we had some joint lectures. He always had such sharp wit and a great sense of humour. A memorable experience is that we all know Ellis is a great cook. There was a period when I happened to gatecrash dinner at his home a few times too many, and I had to admit these coincidences were revealing a pattern of confused navigation to his house around 7 p.m. What always makes me smile is how he delivers his jokes with such a straight face, it’s difficult to tell if he’s joking or serious! If I had to sum up our bond in one word, it would be fun. I wish Ellis the very best this life has to offer. Ellis loves science and loves helping people — errmm, you know what I mean — women. So, Bodey, continue to enjoy this juicy profession! Michael Quarshie I met Uncle Ellis a long time ago through my aunty. I thought he was kind and would be another father figure. I was right. Whenever he’s in London, Uncle always makes sure to meet with me for a nice meal or catch-up. I love how Uncle can throw down in the kitchen! It’s really inspiring, and he always makes really delicious meals. One word to sum up our bond: Familial. Blessings for many, many more great years to come.
