I first met Ellis in 2012 during my recruitment interview at Finney. He really sucked me dry with back-to-back questions! I left convinced I wouldn’t be called back — and honestly wondered if he was a military man because he was so strict. Since then, we’ve shared many memorable experiences, but what stands out the most is how much I’ve grown under his guidance. I came in with no experience in leadership, but his scolding, his advice, and his traits have shaped me into a better person. I’m truly grateful. One thing that always cracks me up? His comments about the “village things” we do in the hospital — they’re legendary and never fail to make me laugh! If I had to choose one word to describe my bond with Ellis, it would be: Father Figure. I can approach him with anything, and he’s always ready to listen. That kind of trust and guidance is rare and invaluable. Wishing you a fantastic year filled with continued success, good health, and happiness. Your leadership and guidance are deeply appreciated. It’s truly a pleasure working under your direction. Have a wonderful birthday — and an even better year ahead! Anna Marcella Eshu-Baidoo I first met Ellis over a decade ago. My initial impression was, “This is a gentleman’s gentleman.” A memorable experience with Ellis was a personal one. He demonstrated a caring, dedicated professionalism, took personal interest in whatever he was doing, and never left a stone unturned until success was achieved. He’s always cracking jokes, and even when you think something is very serious, he tackles it in a humorous way. One word to sum up our bond: Dedicated. I wish that he has the happiest birthday and the smile on his face never fades. I pray that God continues to bless the work of his hands. Yaako Donkor We connected at Aggreymo in 1983… pheeew, that’s 42 years ago! And the friendship? Still going strong. The very first time I saw Ellis, I said to myself: “Eeeish, fine dude like you from St. Martins? Sorry for the babes there paa.” One memorable moment? One time we were hanging out — the usual suspects — and he trolled me for wearing a white shirt for the first time to show that I dey hang out with a Motown chic! Eeeebei! Ellis drops jokes like butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth. And don’t get me started on the plantain chips tins. If you know, you KNOW la. One word to sum up our bond: Connection. It’s deeper than surface-level friendship — it’s about being seen, heard, and valued. Ellis, your ability to connect with others is a true gift. Wishing you a happy 60th birthday that’s as special, joyful, and real as you are. Namasre — I honour your divinity! Kola Braimah I first met Ellis about 10–11 years ago. He was a fine gentleman — very cool and collected. One memorable experience was during the early stages of our friendship at Maame Asor’s house at Devtraco. Ellis was advising the house help to refrain from seeing boys while on errands — OMG! It was so funny, yet serious. His utterances always bring a smile to my face. He can lie to you with a straight face, and you’ll begin to wonder. Ellis is a people’s person, has a very good sense of humour, and is always ready to offer assistance and push you to do something for yourself. Happy 60th Birthday, Ellis. May this milestone bring you all the joy, good health, longevity, and above all, peace of mind and God’s favour. Loretta Magnusen The Birthday Journal 29 E L L I S AT 6 0
