As we celebrate Kim’s sixtieth birthday, I look back on our incredible journey together with a heart full of love and gratitude. Ours is a story of two individuals who came together through shared dreams, overcame challenges with love and companionship, and continue to walk hand in hand into the future. Our journey began over two decades ago at the Reproductive Health Research Unit (RHRU) in Johannesburg. I was invited to present a project to Kim’s team, and as I spoke, I couldn’t help but be captivated by her dedication and intellect. It was evident that Kimwas a formidable force in the field of public health, driven by a deep commitment to making a positive impact. Our first impressions of each other laid the foundation for something truly remarkable. Over time, our professional interactions evolved into a profound friendship. The challenges of our work often kept us physically apart, but our connection only grew stronger. We found solace in each other, nurturing a bond that transcended the miles that separated us. What started as a professional connection soon blossomed into a deep and meaningful relationship. Kim’s journey is nothing short of remarkable. She embarked on her career with a local South African organisation, and her path led her to the role she holds today as aWorld Health Organization Representative. Her professional growth is extraordinary, and she consistently demonstrates unwavering determination to push boundaries and reach new heights. In our personal lives, she plays a crucial role in keeping our family together despite the geographic distances that often separate us.
